After successfully passing a demanding accreditation process, the Bundesanzeiger Verlag has now since 22 February 2017 been officially recognised as an international issuing body for the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI). The publisher and its LEI issuing body, the Legal Entity Identifier Register (LEIReg) - www.leireg.de, are thereby now part of the global LEI issuing system. The Global LEI Foundation (GLEIF) carried out the accreditation.
Its official initial registration as Pre-LOU in May 2014 already authorised the Bundesanzeiger Verlag to issue LEIs, even before its appointment as a so-called LOU (Local Operating Unit) by the GLEIF. Authorisation back then was given by the LEI ROC (Regulatory Oversight Committee) and the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). After the GLEIF was established and took over responsibility for the quality of the Global LEI system (GLEIS), all existing so-called Pre-LOUs were required to submit to the accreditation and authorisation procedure developed by the GLEIF in order to maintain their authorisation for the issuance of LEIs.
All LEIs thus far issued by the LEIReg will remain valid and need not be re-applied for. Companies for which LEI registration is mandatory due to various notification requirements (e.g. of the transaction register) and other relevant national regulations (e.g. reports regulation) may still apply for this at the LEI issuing body, LEIReg, of the Bundesanzeiger Verlag.
